Snorkeling Places
Any body of water can be a viable location for snorkelling. But experienced snorkellers are attracted to those aquatic bodies with less sea waves, warm temperature, and interesting underwater scenarios. The warm, coral-rich bodies of water, such as the Carribean Sea, the Coral Sea, and the Red Sea, have always been included in the top destinations for snorkelling. According to Larry Taylor and his wife (www.travellady.com), aside from the variety and quantity of underwater organisms seen during the snorkelling adventure, the quality, enjoyment and memory of the entire snorkelling experience will definitely prove to be the heaviest factor in judging a snorkelling destination.

Comfortably Free
The Great Barrier Reef, in the north-eastern coast of Australia, is one of the highly acclaimed snorkelling and diving spots in the entire world. Because it is inaccessible from the shore, the Reef can be reached through a catamaran from Queensland that will take you to a pontoon complete with tables, chairs, souvenir shops and everything you will ever miss from home. From the pontoon, it only takes a short swim to the much-awaited snorkelling adventure and be marvelled with the sight of tropical fishes and giant clams. When your energy has already been drained by swimming, you can relax at the float with the resort’s daily ceremony partnered with “Sammy”, a six-foot Maori wrasse, a marine fish with thick lips, bright colours, and strong teeth. An underwater observatory and semi-submerged submarine also await the visitors and guests.

In the Hawaiian islands, the Kealakekua Bay has been highly attractive for divers and snorkelers. Aside from its attraction as an aquatic tourist destination, the place also holds historical and cultural significance as the site where the famous British explorer, Capt. Cook, died in 1779. On the northern shore of the bay, a plaque can be seen to symbolize the place’s historical importance. The bay is also isolated and can only be reached through limited ways, making it even more exciting and mysterious to guests. The efforts in hiking, kayaking, and riding a 60-foot catamaran will surely pay off once you’ve submerged under the water. Most snorkelers admire the sightings of green sea turtles, eels and spinner dolphins. You can also take a cruise and be fed with the barbecues and burgers prepared by the captain.

Seychelles Islands, have also been one of the most popular destinations for divers and snorkelers. Dubbed as a total tropical paradise, it has 100 islands in the African coast, eastern part of Kenya, and some parts of the Indian Ocean. The islands’ capital and most inhabited part of the islands can be reached through a ferry from the rest of the islands. The two most famous spots in Seychelles Islands are Praslin and La Digue. Most of the beaches in La Digue have often been featured in photographs and advertisements for its shaped granite rocks. The small Desroches island, a flight of 50 minutes from Mahe, offers rare sightings of coral towers, moon-shaped marong fishes, and oriental sweetlips.

For those who frequent royal tombs and ancient temples, you may also consider driving a few miles to Sagafa, Egypt. A pier as long as one hundred yards will greet your sight at Soma Bay. The destination may meet you with the similar underwater organisms that can also be seen in other tropical aquatic paradise but the organisms abound in different bright colours and hues. Though the aquatic body is associated with Red, its crystal-clear water gives snorkelers more opportunity to enjoy the attraction offered to them. All snorkelers also enjoy swimming with lion fishes and coral fishes that make the destination’s exotic sea life more appealing to divers.
The Beauty of the Underwater Organisms
On the Pacific Ocean, the La Jolla Cove never gets excluded from the list of highly frequented aquatic destinations. The temperature in La Jolla Cove is a bit colder, making summer the perfect time to plot a visit to this snorkelling destination. Its location, being in between two cliffs, also made it an interesting sight to see. Marine life in the cove also remains protected under the San Diego/ La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve. The most favourite sight in La Jolla Cove is the bright orange garibaldi that started out with the blue colour and later became orange as the fish grew older. Opaleyes, red and yellow giant kelp fish, shovelnose guitarfish, and harmless leopard sharks also swim in groups.
